dining room update

February 06, 2019 by hollis cadenhead

Our dining room has seen a few different scenarios, but we recently made some big changes that impacted the space. First, we had this super cool surfboard dining table, but the black paint had seen better days, and it was quite large for our space. SO, first, we shaved off a few inches all around, and then we (Buzz) sanded the black paint off and we did a natural seal on the wood.

That was a huge improvement, but then the chairs felt a bit cumbersome. I searched and searched, but the best option was a super inexpensive, solid and unfinished wood bench from Home Depot. We decided to paint them black for consistency with our table base, and it really made the space feel lighter and less cramped. Yes, benches maybe aren’t quite as comfy as those chairs, but they work for us and the space so well.

Easy changes costing less than a couple hundred bucks with a significantly positive impact — YES, PLEASE!

5$

Our cat broke a glass pendant light above the dining table. We tried one replacement that didn't feel quite right, and in the interim decided to stick with our favorite go-to, a porcelain light socket and crystal light bulb. Both are from the local hardware store totalling less than five dollars.
